Student Action Teams

Generation Joshua’s Student Action Teams (SATs), supported by HSLDA Action’s federal and state political action committees, provide young people practical hands on experience to go with their civics education by volunteering in political races on behalf of conservative, pro-life, pro-family candidates. Since the fall of 2004, teams of high school and college aged students have worked on Presidential, House, Senate, and Gubernatorial campaigns across America. They have conducted phone banking, literature dropping, and campaigning resulting in remarkable successes. It is evident that dedicated young people can positively impact the political world and learn how to run for office someday. Student Action Teams are the vehicles that help tomorrow’s leaders elect the leaders of today.

Absolutely! You are more than welcome to participate but for insurance purposes, we require students in the 11-13 age range be accompanied by an adult family member or legal guardian. The accompanying adult family member must sign up as a volunteer on the SAT registration page. Also please note that children under the age of 11 are not permitted to participate on Student Action Teams for liability purposes, unless a parent or guardian accompanies them.

Provided you are between the ages of 14 -19, you are free to participate without being accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. If, however, you are between the ages of 11-13, you must be accompanied by an adult family member or legal guardian.

Yes, all participants must be current Generation Joshua members in order to participate. This is not meant to discourage teens from participating, but has been put in place for liability purposes. If you have a friend who is interested in participating in a Student Action Team, they must first sign up to be a Generation Joshua member and then register for the SAT.

Filling in your parent or legal guardian’s name on the registration page does not imply that they are committed and willing to accompany you on the Student Action Team. It simply allows Generation Joshua to know how to contact them with more information.

All of your basic lodging and food costs will be covered while on the Student Action Team. As Generation Joshua begins to coordinate details for specific races we will have a better idea of how transportation costs will be handled. Please see the transportation question below for additional information.

Although we can make no guarantees, we will do our best to accommodate your requests if you would like to register to be on the same team with your club or a friend. Feel free to list names of any Generation Joshua members who you would like to be placed on a team with, but keep in mind, you may not end up on the same team.

The HSLDA Action PAC is in the process of finalizing which races Generation Joshua students will be involved in. Once we know details, we will notify you of your team assignment and its location. In the meantime, we very strongly encourage students to fill out the health and insurance forms, available here, and send those in to Generation Joshua. Students may not participate unless Generation Joshua has received those forms.

Also, what better way to introduce a friend to Generation Joshua than to bring them along on the SATs! Encourage them to join GenJ and sign up for a Student Action Team.

Parents must sign themselves up as well as their teen on the SAT signup page. We appreciate your willingness to help Generation Joshua as a Parent Volunteer!

All Parent Volunteers must have an active HSLDA Action membership. This membership is $35 and is active for one year. You can sign up here: https://hsldaaction.org/membership.

If you had a Generation Joshua parent membership in the past, that membership has been converted to an HSLDA Action membership for all adults older than 19. If you have any questions on the status of your membership or to get your member number, feel free to contact us at info@generationjoshua.org.

Teams will be led by Generation Joshua staff, members of the GenJ Leadership Corps, and Patrick Henry College students. We encourage parents of Generation Joshua members to attend as well. They will serve as Parent Volunteers and drivers during the Student Action Teams and their help is always appreciated.

Student Action Teams are designed to mobilize youth across America and place them in critical elections where their presence will have the highest impact on voter turnout in favor of pro-family, pro-homeschooling candidates. Activities will include door-to-door literature drops, sign making, mailings, phone bank calling, sign waving and more.  You will work alongside other Generation Joshua members and staffers as well as with volunteers and staffers for the PAC endorsed candidates.

Further details about locations and which candidates HSLDA Action PAC is supporting will become available in the coming weeks and months. You will be assigned a race based upon your location.

Student Action Teams are currently scheduled for November 1-6, 2024.

Lodging and food for all participants is covered or provided for by either the campaign or Generation Joshua. In most cases, SAT participants will stay in a hotel with the other Generation Joshua members on their team. It will vary from one campaign to another, but generally students will either be issued a per diem check to cover food costs or the campaign will feed them.

Generation Joshua is not always able to compensate those who travel to SAT locations for their travel costs, due to expenditure constraints in election law.  Travel expenses will vary by race and election, please call us for more information.
